Q. What is coaching?

Set your Life in Motion! coaching programs are designed to nourish what builds you up; dismantle what pulls you down, and create a fresh understanding of who you are and why your dreams matter!

Coaching is an action-oriented process that is aimed at getting results. It is based on an authentic, one-on-one relationship that is 100% focused on creating an empowering, supportive environment to help you move forward in a specific area of your life. In the coaching relationship, you set the agenda, and the coach acts as an objective sounding board to help to keep you alert, motivated, and joyfully on track.

Q. Are coaching and therapy the same?

Although coaching and therapy often complement each other, coaching is not therapy. Coaching is about developing strategic actions, focused on the “now” that will help you move forward in a safe, nurturing environment. It doesn’t attempt to explain behaviors, probe your past, or identify pathology. It is the #1 job of your coach to ask powerful questions to help you access your inner wisdom. An excellent coach will be highly skilled in meeting you where you are, engaging vital life force energy, and enhancing your ability grow and explore “you”.

Q. Who uses a coach?

People who use coaches have an appetite for life. They are committed to applying their abilities to follow the call of their heart. They are curious and courageous, and open to taking a risk to stretch beyond the ordinary. They love to celebrate accomplishments, but they do not shy away from setbacks. They have a strong sense that a more fulfilling life is out there, and know that some extra support, nurturing and encouragement is needed to help them to step fully into their potential.

If your heart skips a beat striving for an elusive personal goal such as a dynamic career, spectacular travel, marvelous health, or a fulfilling relationship, please consider giving coaching whirl!

Q. How does coaching work?

In most cases, coaching is done over the telephone once a week in 30-45 minute sessions three to four times a month. To start things off, there is an initial Q&A session which takes about an hour. The Q&A session will meet you where you are, clarify what you want to work on, identify where you are feeling stuck, and create a comprehensive overview that will serve as a guide for out time together.

Next, I’ll be creating a specific development plan for you that covers the overall purpose of the coaching, the specific goals that you want to achieve, and the timelines for coaching. I’ll also invite you to review your customized coaching plan to ensure that we are both on the same page.

Our one-on-one weekly calls will focus on what’s “up” for you that week. We will explore top-of-mind issues that have surfaced. We will look at hiccups you may have experienced during the week. We will discuss what happened and how you resolved setbacks, or review what is needed to help you resolve setbacks. We will also look at where you were successful and celebrate your achievements!

At the end of our call, I’ll assign homework to be completed before the next coaching session. This could be in the form of a self-observation, journaling, an article to read, or a nourishing practice to begin, or a life-draining habit to dissolve.
